Top Tips for Eating Well

Most of us can access healthy, nutritious foods, but we don’t always make good choices for ourselves and our family. These three rules are a good start to eating well:

GO for 2 serves of fruit a day

  • 1 serve = 1 medium piece of fruit (apple) or 2 small pieces (apricot) or 1 cup fruit salad/tinned fruit or a small handful dried fruit.
  • Include fruit in breakfast, snacks, lunch & dessert.

FILL half your plate with vegies at lunch & dinner

  • Include fresh & cooked vegies, frozen vegies, tinned vegies, beans, chickpeas & lentils.
  • Aim for a vegie rainbow = 5+ different coloured vegies across breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

CHOOSE water first

  • Best thirst quencher
  • No energy
  • Limit other options; soft drink, juices, cordial.
