Be Active

Warrnambool is great city for walking and cycling.  They are both good ways to get out and while improving your health. There is also the added environmental benefit of leaving your car at home.

Warrnambool has loads of social walking groups, walk to school programs, local walking tracks and bike paths across the City. There are also opportunities to be part of physical activity programs designed for your fitness level and stage of life.

Get Active this Autumn

In 2015 Warrnambool’s Active April program saw hundreds of local people try new activities as Council offered free, come and try sessions across its recreation facilities - from swim coaching to gymnastics, walking groups to group fitness classes, social cycling to gym sessions.   85% of those surveyed in 2015 found the free Active April activities very enjoyable and said they would do it again; and 95% said they would recommend the activity to friends and family.

This year there is even more free fun on offer as community groups and clubs get on board.  Free activities will be available at Archie Graham Centre, AquaZone, Springers Gymnastics and at the NEW ‘Active Hub’ on the Civic Green.  The ‘Active Hub’ will run from 18th to 23rd April on the Civic Green, at the corner of Liebig and Timor Streets. The Hub program will lift the lid on both Council and club activities that are on offer in Warrnambool every week of the year.

For six days the Civic Green will host music, giant games, dance, sport (petanque, croquet, tennis, football/netball), art walks, gardening, craft activities and more. Cycling and walking groups will also start and finish at the Hub during the week and there will be a coffee van onsite.

Active Kids?

One easy way for kids to build 30 minutes of exercise into their day is to walk/cycle to and from school. Check out the HEALTHY MOVES website for great tips and to see what your school is up to. GET READY for ACTIVE APRIL by taking part in Ride2School on MARCH 13.
